Reflection on Mt 10:28b

“Be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

This statement by Jesus remains exceptionally relevant today. Earlier, Jesus says, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” This means that people must not allow themselves to be intimidated and must not stray from the truth, even at the cost of their own life. The thousands of martyrs serve as an example of this. They remained steadfast in their faith and were not afraid. Naturally, we fear those who harm our physical well-being, and even more so when they threaten our lives. Therefore, we need to draw strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer so that we can stand firm in the face of trials.

Now, however, we are dealing with the question of whom we should truly fear. Sadly, most people are not only completely unafraid of the one against whom Jesus warns them, but even willingly let themselves be deceived by him. This is a strange paradox. Our fallen nature – or, as Scripture calls it, our old self with its misguided way of thinking – takes no account of death, God’s judgment, or eternity, and reacts instinctively in a distorted way.

So, who should we really fear? The one who can cast both the soul and the body into hell. Who is that? Today, it is the false prophets, or liberal theologians, who have taken over all the Catholic faculties and are corrupting future priests, who then corrupt the faithful. They are not afraid of sin, the devil or his servants; rather, they shun and slander those who are faithful to Christ to soothe their guilty consciences. Under the influence of these apostates, the younger generation of Christians even sympathizes with the sin of sodomy and other perversions. The corruption has reached such a degree that the faithful can no longer discern what constitutes a sin.

Today, we must fear the apostate Vatican and the false pope, who has publicly rebelled against Christ and his gospel, proclaiming a different path under the rainbow banner that leads to eternal perdition. The false pope and the entire apostate Vatican completely reject the path of following Christ. Anyone who chooses to listen to them and follow their advice becomes a public traitor to Christ – a Judas. The path presented to us by the apostate Vatican leads to hell. That is absolutely clear. Yes, we know whom we should fear. But we must remain constantly aware of this. We must fear the spirit of lies and death behind this entire system of betrayal and rebellion against Christ so that we do not align ourselves with it.
