Exorcism and demonic reality

Venerable Patriarch,
we are sending You our letter which deals with an event which took place in Romania.
In 2005, Romanian Orthodox monastery in Tanacu was visited by 23-year-old Maricica Irina Cornici. Maricica grew up in an orphanage in Arad. She suffered from severe schizophrenia. Since she found refuge in the monastery, she asked the sisters to let her stay there.
She soon began to manifest strong psychic disturbances through which can easily work demonic forces. In the third month of her stay in the monastery the fits culminated to such a degree that they were accompanied by aggressive states, so not only her own life but also life of other sisters was in danger. That was why the sisters called their spiritual father and asked him to help her by means of prayer of liberation – an exorcism. She had to be bound in order not to endanger herself or others. Likewise in every psychiatric hospital an aggressive and dangerous individual, who threatens his surroundings, is bound immediately.
During exorcism she was tied to a cross which was on the ground. As she uttered terrible bellowing sounds accompanied by vulgar invectives, curses and obscene words, they had to put a gag in her mouth. The practice during exorcism is such that not only the person concerned but also the exorcist and the prayer group observe a fast. In the Gospel Jesus says that “this kind of demons does not go out except by prayer and fasting” (Matt. 17:21). Father Daniel recited exorcism prayers and the community prayed earnestly and perseveringly for her liberation. Exorcism took place according to usual practice. The prayer fight lasted three days, the demonic power was cast out. Maricica died soon after. Mass media denounced the sisters for sadistic ritual murder. Show trial dragged on for almost two years. Father Daniel was sentenced to 14 years in prison and each of the four nuns to 10 years in prison. 54 years in prison altogether. Judgement qualified death of Maricica as a sadistic second-degree murder. The verdict was announced on 10th February 2007. Mass media demagogically manipulated public by false allegations: “The European courts would sentence each one of them to 25 years’ imprisonment at the least. In America, death penalty would immediately be inflicted on all of them.”
It happens quite often that even if doctors perform a successful operation, the patient dies. Are they also absurdly tried by court as sadistic murderers? How many people in a critical state died in psychiatric wards or committed suicide after their return from there? There are tens of thousands of them.
Maricica’s death is not tragic, because there is great hope that her soul – liberated through exorcism – is now saved.
Why did the mass media as well as the judges put this case in such a false light? Why did the judges commit a judicial crime? This was an ideological show trial which was to be a precedent to discredit the Christian faith. Similar show trials were held in Romania during draconian Communism.
We put an essential question: Do demonic forces exist? Or according to the theories of contemporary psychologists and heretical theologians, those who point out their existence ignore the reality? In Africa there was a case that a possessed girl was tied to a chair and when the bishop held a rite of exorcism, which lasted 8 hours, the chair was raised up to a height of about 1.5 metres and not even a group of men could drag it down to the ground. The demon through the girl started to disclose secret sins of the people present. That was why most of them fled away very quickly. A few weeks after the liberation the girl died. No one condemned the bishop as a sadistic killer for tying the possessed girl and for performing an exorcism over her.
American film “The Exorcist” deals with a real event that happened in the 60-ies of the last century. It was about a possessed boy over whom exorcism was performed repeatedly during which extraordinary phenomena were seen. Finally the boy was liberated and later on he started a family.
What is the teaching of the Church regarding the existence of demons and possession? The Holy Scripture tells us in many places that Jesus cast out demons and thus people were healed even from physical diseases. Jesus gave this power to the apostles too. He said: “And proclaim as you go, saying: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.” (Matt. 10:7-8). Throughout her 2000-year history, the Church has had experience with demonic forces. It is possible to recognize even by reason the demonic manifestations which are associated with obstinacy in evil and with crimes. We ask: Do demons work even today? Contemporary society is massaged by whole systems of demonic lies and perversions. Mass media, various psychologists and demagogues present evil as good and good as evil. The gender ideology, with which the juvenile justice system is associated, particularly emphasizes so-called rights of women and children. In practice, however, the gravest injustice and sadism is committed against defenceless children and women. Introduction of antilaws and perverted immorality is called “human rights”. The argument that children must not be brought up, in consequence of which they are left to self-destruction, is a sign of demonism. An assertion by a transsexual man that he is a woman is a sign of the loss of reason and a manifestation of demonism. Contracting of a so-called marriage by homosexuals is also a manifestation of demonism. When homosexuals, lesbians or paedophiles “adopt” a child, it is tyranny on defenceless children as well as their demoralization and demonization. And it is far worse than to kill them physically.
If children from 5 years of age are exposed to homosexuality, or even paedophilia, and to all kinds of perverted addictions through sexual antieducation at school, it is also a sign of demonism. Legalization of drugs, which is globally promoted by the United Nations, is also a sign of demonization. Various practices leading to the so-called regulation of humanity, which prepare mass genocide, are the work of demonic forces. “The devil is a liar and a murderer.” (cf. Jn 8:44) How many demons of death are behind abortions and euthanasia?! Millions of people have fallen victims to them. Selling children for organs through the mediation of so-called international adoption is also a manifestation of demonism. The Lisbon Treaty, which has set homodictatorship as a priority of the so-called modern society is also a means of demoralization and demonization of formerly Christian Europe.
Freemasons dedicate themselves to Satan in 33 degrees. Not all demons manifest themselves by sadism, sexual perversions, abnormal strength, supernatural phenomena, by foaming at the mouth, screaming or throwing people to the ground. Demonic forces also manifest themselves decently, e.g. in New Age. They likewise manifest themselves in white magic – by “giving help”. Today there are dozens of forms of white magic. In black magic people directly invoke demons to do harm to other people. Through divination, which has a number of different forms, one obtains supernatural information from demons. In spiritualism, a glass on a table moves by itself, a man sitting on a chair is lifted up on one finger. These are not physical laws, but it is a work of demonic forces. Pagan religions worship demons and bring them even human sacrifices.
The explosion of Satanism affects children as well. The toys and children’s clothes are depicting monsters and skulls. Computer games teach children to kill cynically. Metal and rock music has its roots in satanic rites of voodoo. Likewise drug addition opens one’s soul to demonism.
Conclusion
Demons of lie and perversion are causing physical death of millions and then their eternal damnation in hell. An Orthodox priest Daniel, who cast out demons, was sentenced along with four nuns to 54 years in prison for this act of mercy. Implementation of demonic programmes by the UN and EU leadership in politics, legislation, education, health care and culture leads to the genocide of the entire nations. These are the most serious crimes – crimes against humanity! However, their perpetrators are not punished at all! If the Church does not want to be responsible for these global crimes, she must not be silent!
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
