Word of life – Rom 7:4
“Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ,
so that you may belong to another, to Him who has been raised from the dead,
in order that we may bear fruit for God.”
(27 May – 10 June 2012)
This verse is a continuation of the preceding three verses. It emphasizes that we have died to the requirements of the law through the body of Christ, through our being in Christ. Through baptism we have become His Mystical Body. But through baptism we were also grafted upon the new life of the risen Christ. The verse says that we are to bear fruit for God – this is the fruit of our union with Christ which we bear by walking in the obedience of faith. It means that we learn in certain situations to seek the will of God in prayer in all sincerity and renounce our own will, and then also fulfil the will of God. If we renounce our own will, we give way to Jesus and His new life which can then work in us and through us.
