Word of life – Rom 5:19

For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners,

so also through the obedience of the one Man the many will be made righteous.

(22 Jan – 5 Feb 2012)

In this verse it is shown what we inherited through the disobedience of Adam and what we gained through the obedience of Christ. We follow Jesus in obedience when we fulfil God’s will – the will of the Heavenly Father. In the Lord’s Prayer we say: “Father, … Thy will be done.” (Mt 6:10)

In the Greek original, chapter 5 of the Epistle to the Romans uses the word “dia” (through) 17 times: verses 1, 2, 5, 10, 11, 12 (2?), 16, 17 (2?) 18 (2?), 19 (2?), 21 (2?).

It is important to know what we have through Adam and what through Christ.

Through Adam (the one man): sin and death (v. 12, 15), offence, judgement, condemnation (v. 16), the many made sinners (v. 19).

Through our Lord Jesus Christ (the one Man): salvation from the wrath of God (v. 9), reconciliation with God (v. 11), grace, justification (v. 15, 16), the gift of righteousness, the reign in eternal life (v. 17), justification of life (v. 18), the many made righteous (v. 19), eternal life (v. 21).

“So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
