Let us do works worthy of eternity

Before you stand before the judgment seat of God, do your best so as not to stand there with empty hands. We will be judged not only for doing evil. We are obliged to do good – to do works worthy of eternity. We will be judged for what we were obliged to do and did not do. Every good word, every encouragement, every step of faith, every suffering which we accept and bear, every mockery and every persecution for the sake of Christ is of great worth. So let us live by faith. Certainly, we will not be justified through our good works only but we are justified through the righteousness of Christ. Indeed, our salvation is in Christ – this is the foundation of Christianity, but the question is what we build on this foundation: wood and straw or the works of gold done in union with Christ.

1Cor 3:13-15: “…each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.” These verses speak of Purgatory. If anyone has built the foundation, he will be saved, but only as through fire. Those who have received Christ but because of their lukewarmness, laziness and weak faith cannot enter the glory of heaven will go to Purgatory. The souls that go to Purgatory go through certain stages of purification. Here they suffer torments, some maybe the most severe torments similar to the torments of the damned. But there is a great difference: these souls have hope. They know that this suffering will end one day. Some souls are in Purgatory for one hour, some for one day, some for 50 years, some for 1000 years and some until the Second Coming of Christ. When Christ comes for the second time, the last soul will leave Purgatory, and Purgatory will be destroyed.
