Reflection on Prov 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to Him,
and He will make your paths straight.
Think about the word of life and answer these questions:
What three things are you told to do?
When these conditions are met, what are you promised?
TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART …
- What can you trust God to do for you? (Ps 32:8)
- Read Romans 12:1-2.
- What steps should be taken to experience God’s will?
- How is God’s will described?
- To whom does God promise special blessing? (Jer 17:7)
… LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING …
- What warning does God give in Jeremiah 17:5?
- Why should we not limit ourselves to human understanding? (Is 55:8-9)
- What principle did Jesus follow in making decisions? (Jn 6:38)
… HE WILL MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT.
- What means has God provided for determining His will? (Ps 119:105; 1Cor 2:12)
- What should you do about situations you don’t understand? (Jam 1:5)
- What precedes the fulfilment of God’s promises? (Heb 10:36)
APPLYING PROVERBS 3:5-6
Describe a situation in your life in which you are seeking God’s guidance.
List ways that show how you can trust God in this situation.
This word of life, again, should strengthen our faith in concrete situations, the faith that God is almighty, as well as the awareness that He wants us to turn to Him with trust and not to doubt in our hearts. If we do this, we will certainly experience that God intervenes even in situations that are impossible for us to resolve.
