Reflection on Jn 15:16
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit,
and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
Think to yourself for a moment that God chose you: “I did not choose You, my God and Saviour, but You chose me before the foundation of the world…” (cf. Eph 1:4)
Jesus wants me to bear fruit – the fruit of works done according to the will of God and in faith. This fruit should remain forever!
Jesus assures us again that the Father will give us whatever we ask in His name. This holy name of God is “Yehoshua” (Lord is my salvation).
The night before His death Jesus repeatedly emphasizes that the Father will give us whatever we ask Him in the holy name. So let us not forget that we should ask in the holy name of God. This name gives spiritual power – Jesus Himself asks in us. Sometimes God wants us to ask for a longer time. Why? Because He wants to give us more than we ask, and we can not yet understand it. Some saints prayed for a particular person or thing for several years (e.g. St Monica for St Augustine). Let us make every effort to pray without doubting in our hearts. Now it is the will of God for the people of Ukraine and Christians of Russia to pray for the spirit of repentance and for spiritual resurrection for both of these nations! God has given us a prayer acc. Mk 11:23 and acc. Ezek 37 especially for this purpose – for spiritual resurrection of the nation and the Church. God has thus given us a weapon. Let us fight! God with us! Let us not give up! God has the last word. The Book of Revelation shows it clearly in its final chapters (17-22). The Father says to you: “Fear not, O Jacob My servant, whom I have chosen.” (Isa 44:2) “I have formed you; you will not be forgotten by Me!” (Isa 44:21) “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the (pierced) palms of My hands.” (Isa 49:15)
Jesus says to you today: “I chose you.”
