Reflection on Mt 6:22
The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.
If you have bad eyes, or your eyesight is failing, you suffer. If you lose your sight, you are in complete darkness and see nothing of the material world.
A particular kind of look or facial expression may reflect an inner harmony or disharmony. A gloomy face, an evil look, an envious or lustful eye conveys sin and disharmony or spiritual bondage that enslaves man.
Nowadays, with the help of so-called modern psychologies, even the greatest criminal can easily create an artificial smile or pretend kindness, but it is unnatural and fake. Sooner or later it will be unmasked.
We have three kinds of sight or eyes – physical, mental and spiritual. With our physical eyes we see the material world. Mental sight is our reason and we can use it to discover the invisible realities, such as abstract, mathematical or even logical truths. In the light of reason, we can also recognize moral laws, which are reflected in the sphere of mutual relationships.
As for spiritual sight, it is the light of faith in which we can perceive spiritual truths and laws as well as revealed truths that God gives us for salvation. That is why purity of faith is so important. Faith must be protected from heresies, which are currently destroying the very foundations of our salvation. One then finds himself in darkness and unable to see with spiritual eyes. A faith defiled by heresies obscures spiritual vision and seriously threatens our salvation. It is a tragedy that the greatest heretic of all time is currently pseudo Pope Francis. He has enthroned the Pachamama demon in the Vatican, and has dedicated himself to demons in Canada to the sound of a shaman blowing a turkey bone whistle. He destroys universal moral standards in the exhortation Amoris Laetitia. He promotes LGBTQ immorality and breaks God’s commandments. He is in total darkness with this pseudo belief. However, he is not alone; it is a whole group of church hierarchy and lay faithful who feel comfortable about this pseudo belief. But this pseudo belief leads to hell! Those who do not love the truth, who are unable to self-critically admit their mistakes, are spiritually blind and are in inner unity with him.
The eye is an organ that must be protected from injury and pollution. Likewise, we must protect our spiritual eye, which is our faith. If we are united to Christ by faith and rooted in Him, God’s light flows and knowledge is poured upon others even through our words and our facial expression. Our faith grows in prayer and our spiritual eye is purified through repentance.
If our spiritual eye is filled with God’s light, our whole body and soul are full of light.
And Jesus says in the next verse: “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.”
Jesus also said: “I am the light of the world.” If our spiritual eye is focused on Him and if we are united to Him, we will walk in the light and save our souls.
