Reflection on Gal 3:26-27
“You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
These Bible verses, which again we are going to recite for two weeks, are followed by the verses: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Let us be aware that we are sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus rather than through works. We are in Him spiritually; not only through baptism – as it is written that being baptized into Christ we have clothed ourselves with Christ – but also through faith and through the holy sacraments we should be aware of this deep truth, draw strength from it for spiritual struggle and rejoice that Jesus is with us, that we are in Him, and He is in us. As Jesus said: “Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him.” And this happens during Holy Communion in the Divine Liturgy.
If you attend Sunday Mass and receive Holy Communion, then during each prayer stop when you repeat the name of Jesus and touch His five wounds by faith you can realize for a few seconds that He is really in you, and you are in Him. This is spiritual rather than physical presence. But it is real. Jesus said it and it is true. Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will never pass away. We only need to remember His words. And these words are: “You are a son of God in Christ Jesus. Through baptism you have clothed yourself with Christ, and through faith you remain in Him, and He in you.” This is also said in the parable of the vine and the branches, where Jesus says: “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.”
