God’s requirement: true fellowship
The first step in evangelization is to receive Jesus as one’s Saviour and Lord, to receive the Mother of God and the Holy Spirit, and to renounce heresies and the occult. But then there is the second stage. The second stage of mission, which is vital, is to build a true Church – the true Body of Christ – rather than a mere institution. The Church is the true Body of Christ, and the necessary condition is unity. The present-day Church, unfortunately, is like a rotten stinking corpse for the time being; it is not the light to the world but darkness. If we have sorrow and grief in our hearts over the Church, God will show us the key to the deepest mission.
A living communion with Jesus – this is the mystery of a living Church. What is necessary is fellowship, the condition of which is a living faith and willingness to repent genuinely time and again. It means to return into the truth, to return into God’s presence, to allow Jesus to take into His hands what I have begun to do. We often start something with God’s help, but soon we forget Jesus and start to do it on our own, without Him, and we do not even remember the moment when we lost Jesus. Indeed, Jesus says: “I am with you, but where are you?” Although we do not perform any visible mission, it is our sacred duty to carry out mission in our own souls in the first place. St Francis of Sales says: “One soul is diocese enough.” We could add: and my own soul in the first place. So we must launch out into the deep, make an artesian well.
In the present hard times, when sin has spread extremely rapidly, God can give a great blessing even through our weakness, through our faith and our unity in the following of Christ. We are called to make unity (although we have completely different characters), and this true unity in Christ presupposes spiritual dying, spiritual cross and spiritual death of all members of community. This mission will then be of great benefit. A Latin proverb says: tres faciunt collegium. Three makes company. That is also why Jesus says: if two or three agree… If two agree, it is a great success, and if three agree, it is the height of success in that all the three, in order to come to an agreement, have to renounce their own visions even if these were given by God many times, just as Isaac was given to Abraham by God. This way of dying to our self, when we allow Jesus to do the will of the Heavenly Father in our life, is actually the following of Christ. The programme of Jesus was to do the will of the Heavenly Father. And this is not possible without denying our self, taking up our cross and following Jesus.
