The old self must be judged
The liar and murderer constantly pulls our leg. We have found ourselves betrayed a thousand times and yet we habitually believe and believe and believe him and ourselves, and we do not believe God. That’s the order of the day. Whenever we are to receive something by faith, we immediately get into a bad mood or feel resentment. The spirit of lies simply leads us by the nose in our spiritual life without end. Concerning material things, we can see it easily; we look back and know that we were deceived. We singe our feathers and so we are more careful the next time. However, concerning spiritual things, it is pitiful that we keep believing the liar! You ask: And when will we manage to believe Jesus at last? Answer: When we stop being curious like Eve and stop pondering on the liar’s intrusive thoughts by which he attacks us in the smallest matters every day. We fail to walk in God’s Word or to think about it in particular situations, but whenever we get an idea to do something and feel like doing it, we do it so, cling to it and take it as our own, and it never crosses our mind that we should ask in faith what God wants us to do. Is this really the will of God? Eve began to think about the words of the Evil One and thus, in fact, she began to question the words of God and did not believe Him, and the result was the first sin. And this unbelief repeats itself in small things 77 times a day. What to do? We must learn to enter into the death of Christ, i.e. to abandon our own truth, our feelings, self-pity, anger etc. and to enter into the presence of God. Let us try to realize what God wants to say to this or that particular thought. Is it of God or is it my own? If it is my own, the enemy will take advantage of it. If I have something of my own and cling to it, I have not given it wholly to God and keep it just like a rich man keeps his wealth, and so the enemy claims his right to it. Simply, what I have not given to God is no neutral thing. The devil will take it. So it means that I must enter into the death of Christ by faith time and again. The old self must be judged and condemned; otherwise it is Jesus who is judged and mercilessly condemned by the old self. We need to judge ourselves: “If we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged.” (1Cor 11:31)
